Leon Steelman died this morning around 1am after a 2 year battle with cancer. Leon was one of the founders of Balcones Youth Soccer, which later became NASA, and worked on the NASA soccer fields till about 10 years ago. He spent many Friday evenings lining the fields with the headlights of his truck getting ready for Saturday games. He laid a lot of irrigation pipe with Rick Jacobsen, Jon Ellis, Troy Rudolph, Jim Reed, Tom Afflerbach and many other parents and installed all the electrical at St Francis. His son Josh played with Rick and Colleen's son Kyle up to U19 and Leon's daughter refereed many games at Cook. Leon taught players on the field and off that hard work won't kill you, it just makes you sore. He was a great friend to many of us and his impact on youth soccer will never be forgotten.
