NASA players Dominique and Devin Patton, of SPARK Home School in Austin, Texas are Finalists in The Paradigm Challenge, one of the largest youth innovation competitions in the world. The competition challenged students aged 7 to 18 to use STEM skills plus kindness, creativity, and collaboration to generate new ideas to prevent injuries and fatalities from home fires – America’s #1 disaster threat.

Patton boys (8, and 6) submitted a winning entry, entitled Fire Safety Challenge Game. The Fire Safety Challenge is a game programmed on the Scratch.mit.edu platform. The game challenges you to plan an escape route and get out when you hear a smoke alarm go off. Head over here https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/107387150/ to test out your fire escape planning skills. Next, gather your family to make a plan and practice a fire escape route in your own home.

Their team, SPARK, is one of 100 Finalists in competition.
