Law 1 THE FIELD OF PLAY: The dimensions and marking of the field shall be as illustrated. The size of the goal will be 6½' High x 18' Wide. Home team coach is responsible to assure that the field is properly marked and ready for play at least 20 minutes prior to game time.
Law 2 THE BALL: Size 4 with stitched cover. Circumference between 25-26 inches and weigh between 11-13 ounces. Each team will supply 1 game ball.
Law 3 NUMBER OF PLAYERS: Maximum of 8 players, including the goalkeeper, from each team on the field at any one time. Maximum of twelve (12) players on the roster. Players may be substituted with the permission of the referee, generally: prior to throw-in (your possession), prior to a goal kick by either team, after a goal by either team, after an injury by either team when the referee stops play and at half-time and after a caution (the player receiving the caution). Players must Enter and Exit the field from the halfway-line after players have exited the field. Each player rostered to a team SHALL play a minimum of 50% of the total playing time. Teams and games may be coed.
Law 4 PLAYERS' EQUIPMENT: Tennis shoes or soft-cleated soccer shoes. Shinguards are MANDATORY. Shinguards are to be worn UNDER the socks and the jersey tucked in. Players may not wear watches, necklaces, earrings, rings, or other jewelry. The players names "Will Not" be allowed on the jerseys - this is for the safety of the players.
Law 5 REFEREES: NASA will furnish referees. The decision of the Referee shall be final. All rule infractions shall be briefly explained to the offending player.
Law 6 ASSISTANT REFEREES: NASA will provide two (2) Assistant Referees when possible. If one is not available, each team shall provide a linesman to assist the Referee in calling "ball-outs".
Law 7 DURATION OF THE GAME: Game shall be divided into two (2) equal halves of twenty-five (25) minutes each and a half-time break of five (5) minute.
Law 8 THE START OF PLAY: Conform to FIFA except that the defending players shall be eight (8) yards from the center mark while kick-off is in progress.
Law 9 BALL IN AND OUT OF PLAY: Conform to FIFA - Ball must completely cross line to be "out of play". Ball is "in play" if any part of the ball is on or above the line.
Law 10 METHOD OF SCORING: Conform to FIFA - Ball must completely cross goal line between posts and beneath crossbar to count.
Law 11 OFF-SIDE: NASA will call 'Off-Side' for the 8v8 format to better prepare both the players and the referee. Note: 'Off-Side' may not be called in tournament play.
Law 12 FOULS AND MISCONDUCT: Conform to FIFA except that the defending players must be eight (8) yards away from the ball before kick is allowed. An indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team at the center spot on the halfway line if a goalkeeper punts or drop-kicks the ball in the air from his/her penalty area into the opponents penalty area.
Law 13 FREE-KICKS: Conform to FIFA except that the penalty mark is eight (8) yards from the center of the goal line and that players other than the kicker and defending goalkeeper are at least eight (8) yards away from the ball before the kick is allowed.
Law 14 PENALTY-KICKS: Conform to FIFA except that the defending players must be eight (8) yards away from the ball before the kick is allowed.
Law 15 THROW-IN: Conform to FIFA
Law 16 GOAL-KICK: Conform to FIFA
Law 17 CORNER-KICK: Conform to FIFA except that the defending players must be eight (8) yards away from the ball before kick is allowed.
ADDITIONAL NASA ASSOCIATION RULES: Coaches and players must be on the opposite side of the field from the spectators, according the the field layout drawings. Anyone, other than players, who are on the "team side" must have a KidSafe badge as required by CAYSA and STYSA. No alcoholic beverages or smoking will be allowed near the playing area.
